Request #18-546

Dear Public Information Officer,

Pursuant to the Public Records Law, N.C.G.S. Sec. 132-1 et seq., I request copies of the following documents pertaining to Resident Assistants in student housing at your university:

1. A copy of any policy, handbook, rulebook or manual that addresses interactions between Resident Assistants working in campus housing and the news media.

2. A blank copy of any contract or agreement that Resident Assistants are asked to sign, if any, that addresses communications with the news media. (To be clear, this request seeks generic documents, not documents containing identifiable student data.)

These documents are needed for a nonprofit educational research project, and as such, I would ask that you waive or minimize any fees.  I agree to pay any reasonable copying and postage fees of not more than $20. If the cost would be greater than this amount, please notify me.  Please provide a receipt indicating the charges for each document.

If you choose to deny this request, please provide a written explanation for the denial including a reference to the specific statutory exemption(s) upon which you rely.  Also, please provide all segregable portions of otherwise exempt material.

New documents or requested information have been posted to your request. The documents are being provided to you in accordance with the North Carolina Public Records Act.  There are no documents responsive to your first request, bullet #1. The topic of how to speak to the news media as a student rather than in the role as a Resident Advisor is addressed verbally by University staff during onboarding. This request has been fully processed and is closed.
