Under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., I am requesting an opportunity to inspect or obtain copies of Conflict of Interest Disclosure forms for 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.  I request all the data from the forms for each conflict of interest filing from faculty and staff members of the university. If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $10. However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of the potential conflicts of interest of state employees and affiliated researchers. 

The release of the information is for non-commercial purposes. ProPublica is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization based in New York City, whose mission is journalism in the public interest. I am a reporter at ProPublica, and this request is for newsgathering purposes. I, or my colleagues at ProPublica, will use the records to inform the public through our reporting. I therefore request a waiver of all fees and charges.
