FOI Request/ Fee waiver


Dear Public Affairs Officer:


Pursuant to G.S. §132-1, I write to request emails (including attachments) to and from the following individuals sent or received since January 1, 2020 pertaining to correspondence about campus plans to handle the outbreak of COVID-19, cancel classes or move to online education, postpone or cancel sporting events, and address the needs of affected students.


  • Individuals (if applicable):
    • University president
    • Chancellor
    • Provost
    • Chief public affairs officer
    • Chief athletic officer
    • Sports information officer
    • Basketball coach
    • General counsel
    • Dean of the school or department of public health
    • Dean of the school or department of medicine
  • The emails may include but may not be limited to the following words:
    • COVID / COVID-19
    • Coronavirus
    • Virus
    • Refund
    • Prorate
    • NCAA
    • Tournament
    • Basketball
    • Reimburse
    • Cancel
    • Close
    • Remote 

These documents are held by the school and constitute public records pursuant to state law. I request that these documents be provided in electronic format.


If all or a part of this request is denied, I request that I be provided with a written statement of the grounds for denial, including a recitation of the specific statutes under which the denial is justified.


If some portions of the requested documents are determined to be exempt from disclosure, please provide me with the portions that can be disclosed.


If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $50 before filling this request. However, I request a waiver of all fees for this request.


I would request your response within ten (10) business days. As I am making this request as a journalist and this information is of timely value, I would appreciate your communicating with me by email, rather than by postal mail, if you have questions regarding this request.
