On behalf of the National Anti-Vivisection Society, I am submitting a request under North Carolina’s Public Records Law requesting: invoices for the purchase of dogs for use in research, education and testing at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.
My interest is in the number and cost of animals purchased and the purchase orders or invoices seem to be the best record to access this information. If there is a better way to access this information, one that will provide me the desired information but with less time for the university, I would be agreeable to considering that instead.
NAVS requests a waiver from the payment of fees because it is in the public interest to have access to information on funding by a government agency on this issue. NAVS has written extensively over the years about the use of animals for research by universities and medical research laboratories. This request will give significantly better insight into the use of animals in university funded research. This information is not already in the public domain, and therefore the information will be published by the society for the public.
Furthermore, NAVS is a non-profit educational society that collects, analyzes and disseminates information to the public on the use of animals for research. This information is directly connected to the NAVS mission and will be published through free subscription newsletters and on our website.
NAVS would prefer electronic versions of these records sent via e-mail.
